What is a THCU consultation?

THCU provides free consultations with health promoters in Ontario. We assist individuals and organizations in the application of theory and principles in the following workplace health promotion areas:

A. Getting Ready
Understanding the definition of, and evidence for, comprehensive workplace health promotion (CWHP), including the skills and capacities required to implement CWHP.
Understanding the legislation regulating health and safety in the workplace.
Addressing issues related to organizational culture in CWHP.
The keys to successful CWHP.
Gaining ‘buy in’/support from your organization’s stakeholders and decision makers.
Linking with, and otherwise accessing, key resources and stakeholders.
B.  Assessing Workplaces
Collecting the information needed to plan CWHP (e.g. workplace needs assessments, health risk appraisals, environment scans, interest surveys).
C.  Marketing CWHP
Creating and presenting a business case for CWHP.
Marketing/promoting CWHP to various audiences.
D.  Developing an Overall Strategy
Developing CWHP program goals and objectives.
Selecting CWHP programs and activities (awareness raising, education, skill building, environmental supports).
Selecting CWHP programs and activities addressing risk factors for chronic disease (e.g., smoking, nutrition, physical activity).
Selecting CWHP programs and activities addressing organizational culture.
Selecting CWHP programs and activities addressing occupational health and safety.
E.  Ongoing Implementation
Establishing a CWHP committee.
Facilitating and consulting with CWHP committees.
Developing and executing a communications plan.
Accessing materials for CWHP programs and activities.
Supporting the development of workplace health promotion policies.
F.  Evaluating CWHP
Evaluating workplace health promotion programs.
G.  Sustaining CWHP
Sustaining workplace health promotion programs.
H.  Special Topics/Settings of Interest
Working to develop/implement CWHP in your own organization.
Working with small businesses.
Working with employers and other key stakeholders in rural areas.
Working with employers and other key stakeholders in northern locations.

Finding information and resources that are relevant to your programs.
Assisting with planning, material development and/or evaluation for your health promotion programs.

Who carries out a consultation?

Consultations may be carried out by THCU associates or guest consultants from our network of planners, advocates, communicators and evaluators.

Consultations may be conducted using telephone, electronic media, or in person at a suitable location. They range from short one-time contacts to longer sessions (1/2 or full day).  Time and travel limitations may exist.

To arrange a consultation, complete the service request form online, or please print off a version of the service request kit () and send it to us . We will work with you to develop a plan for the consultation that will best meet your needs.  Please note that we cannot guarantee service with less than six week's of notice.
