Tips for Learning
Guidelines for Study
HP 102 is designed as a self-study course. It relies on your ability and willingness to direct your own learning. Here are some guidelines to help you through the self-study process.
- Try to set aside a regular time to work on the modules. Keep in mind the time you need to do the readings and critical reflection.
- Find a space which is conducive for self-study.
- Consider developing a Reflective Journal that you compile as you work through the modules. A journal is a useful means to ensure that you get the most out of this course. Some people find that actively writing out what they are learning helps to clarify what they've just read. It also provides a tool to complete the reflection exercises and provides a place to capture key points you would like to reinforce or come back to at a later time.
Strategies for Effective Online Learning
- Consider completing HP 101 to ground yourself in fundamental health promotion theory before moving on to this workplace health promotion-specific course.
- Familiarize yourself with the HP 102 course design and structure.
- Let others around you know you are taking this course and request they respect the time you have blocked off to study.
- Review the resources and links at the end of each module and bookmark those that you would like to explore more fully.
- Hone your technical skill so that the technology does not interfere with your learning and does not distract or frustrate you.
Making Use Of The Reflective Exercises
To help and support your learning, this course is designed to draw on your own experiences in the field of health promotion and prompt you to step back a moment to think. Each module presents an introductory reflective exercise in which you are asked to think about some aspect of your existing knowledge and practice. Reflect on what you know about the topic and what you would like to know about the topic. At the end of each module, there is a concluding reflective exercise to help you gather your thoughts on the material presented in the content discussion. These exercises will prompt you to reflect on and synthesize your growing knowledge.
