Nancy Dubois

Nancy DuboisNancy has been a consultant with THCU since 1998. As such, she works with groups across the province in all of the THCU mandated support areas of planning, evaluation, policy development, sustainability, health communication and comprehensive workplace health. In addition to this part-time work with THCU, Nancy has been the lead consultant with the Canadian Best Practices System in Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion with the Public Health Agency of Canada for several years and has been actively involved in the Ontario Heart Health Program in a variety of capacities since its inception, including the Director of one of the first five demonstration pilot projects for six years in the early 1990’s and two stints managing the provincial Heart Health Resource Centre. Short-term contracts developing strategic plans, creating resources, conducting environmental scans and working on team development round out her work life.

 

From the volunteer aspect, Nancy chairs Canada's Coalition for Active Living as well as the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute Board of Directors. She has enjoyed working internationally in Italy, Chile, Finland and most recently, Bosnia, Serbia and Turkey.

 

Nancy hails from Scotland, in rural southwestern Ontario, amid the tobacco fields, where she and her husband of 29 years are adjusting very well to an empty nest.

Larry Hershfield

Larry HershfieldLarry Hershfield is the manager of THCU. He plans all aspects of THCU’s service delivery, including designing, contracting experts and co-facilitating many workshops. Larry also conducts consultations and contributes significantly to the content of resource materials. A member of the Centre for Health Promotion at the University of Toronto since 1991, he has managed, coordinated, and participated in a wide variety of other health promotion projects.  Larry has made major contributions to facilitating health promotion in Ontario through such roles as curriculum consultant and keynote speaker (e.g., at the Health Promotion Summer School and the Canadian Health Network).

Prior to his involvement with the CHP, he held senior positions in the public health field, including Director of Prevention and Health Promotion  Programs Division at the Addiction Research Foundation. Larry’s interest in health communication and health promotion was shaped by graduate work in social psychology and over 20 years of developing diverse programs.

Robb MacDonald

Robb MacDonaldThe relative rookie at THCU, Robb has been a core consultant since 2005. He has a Master’s degree in Physical Education and 15 years of consulting experience with the not-for-profit and public sectors. Robb has worked extensively with the health, literacy, environmental and employment fields, assisting regional, provincial and national organizations develop, implement and evaluate their communication and social marketing programs.

To help keep active, Robb has recently taken up competing in track and field at the Master’s level. Robb recently moved to Orillia, home of the Mariposa Folk Festival and an annual favourite for Robb and his two boys.

Jodi Thesenvitz

Jodi ThesenvitzJodi is a consultant with experience in many aspects of health promotion. She has worked extensively with THCU developing a wide variety of print and web-based resources, and contributing to the content and design of workshops. She has also worked with numerous health departments and other non-profit organizations in a variety of planning, project management, health communication and resource development roles. Prior to working as a consultant, Jodi was a member of the Tobacco Use Prevention Team in the City of Hamilton, where she focused primarily on health communication and policy development activities related to second-hand smoke.
