About Us
The development of the Online Health Program Planner is closely aligned with the mandates of the two organizations who contributed to its inception and growth: The Health Communication Unit (THCU) and the National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools.
The National Collaborating Centre for Methods and Tools is one of six centres that make up the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health. The NCCMT focuses on improving access to and use of evidence-based methods and tools for knowledge translation in public health. Ultimately, the NCCMT aims to enhance evidence-informed public health policy and practice in Canada by providing easy access to innovative, high quality, up-to-date methods and tools for public health practitioners involved in policy and program decision-making as well as practice.
THCU started in 1993 at the University of Toronto and moved to Public Health Ontario's Health Promotion, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Department in 2011. It provides support to thousands of health practitioners every year. Through its online spaces and face-to-face interaction, community practitioners are able to ask for and receive tools that are simple yet powerful, concrete and visual. Public Health Ontario (PHO) is an arm's-length government agency dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of all Ontarians and reducing inequities in health. As a hub organization, PHO links public health practitioners, front-line health workers and researchers to the best scientific intelligence and knowledge from around the world.
Public Health Ontario wishes to acknowledge and thank The Health Communication Unit (THCU) staff and many partners who contributed to the development of this material.
