About Larry Grand

Larry Grand was a community consultant in Renfrew County, Ontario for over 31 years. For the first 4.5 years he was employed by the Royal Ottawa Hospital as a Children’s Services planner. He had much success helping to identify, develop and launch a children’s mental health service, a development centre for children with special needs and a day care service. In 1981 he joined the Addiction Research Foundation, which later became the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in 1999. At CAMH, he successfully contributed to the identification, proposal writing and advocacy for addiction treatment programs in Renfrew County.

He consulted to and contributed to the Renfrew County FOCUS program. FOCUS activity included the preparation of a substance use policy guide for families and the prevention of driving while impaired, FASD and drug facilitated sexual assault. Of special interest was and remains the development and implementation of alcohol related public health policies.

This experience included alcohol policies for municipalities, social organizations and work sites. He helped author “how to” manuals on alcohol policies for municipalities and snowmobile clubs. He has written and presented extensively on alcohol liability and policies that when implemented can reduce this risk. He was a member of the CAMH Alcohol Policy Research Group. Currently he is completing a book, sponsored by CAMH, for licensed alcohol providers (i.e. bars) on alcohol policies for customers and related policies and procedures for staff.
