Message development workshop (1 day)

Description of workshop
This workshop is intended to help health promoters to review
existing communication products from a variety of viewpoints, to
identify the highest quality materials, and to develop "creative
platforms" - specifications for effective communications that can
direct writers, graphics artists, and others involved in creative
production. This event will enhance participant skills, build a common
understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of current materials,
and expose gaps in existing resources.
Who should attend
This workshop is for practitioners who wish to understand the key
elements of message strategies and who want a variety of approaches to
consider when producing health communication messages.
Goal
To provide participants with knowledge and practical tools
necessary to plan and develop effective health communication messages.
Objectives
1) To apply the principles of effective message development.
2) To examine some issues in message development such as the use of
fear, humour, credibility of the source, length, and other contextual
considerations.
3) To review existing messages and related materials using a review
protocol.
4) To develop specifications for effective health messages that can
direct the creative development, production and/or dissemination of
messages.
