Developing health promotion policies workshop

Description of workshop
This one-day workshop is intended for public and community health
practitioners with an interest in policy as a strategy for bringing
about health promoting change. It will provide a practical, ‘hands-on’ orientation
to the process of developing and implementing health-promoting policies.
Topics addressed in the workshop will include: assessing the need
for policy, building support for policy among key stakeholder groups,
and specific examples of health promotion policies taking a systems-based
approach. Through a combination of lectures, small group exercises
and guest speakers, the workshop will address the development of
community-wide policies (e.g., active transportation or built environment),
as well as the development of policies for specific settings, such
as workplaces and schools.
Who Should Attend
This introductory session is geared to the health promotion practitioner
who wants or needs to address a change in policy or is looking to
better understand concepts, a process and the skills required. Practitioners

schools, workplaces, and/or community systems will find this most
relevant.
Goal
The goal of the workshop is to increase the skills in
participants related to addressing changes in public policy.
