Description of workshop

Media relations involves a variety of activities from developing and maintaining a long term communication plan and process, through to immediate tasks such as pitching stories to the media and interviewing.

Who should attend?

This introductory workshop is intended for practitioners who are planning or conducting media relations initiatives.

Goal

The goal of the media relations workshop is to acquaint practitioners with the functions of the news media and equip them with basic skills to apply that knowledge to advancing education, publicity, and advocacy goals.

Objectives: 

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

1. Understand the goals and objectives of media relations
2. Recognize the three keys to successful media relations

Access
Creative and Compelling delivery of messages.

4. Understand how to access the media
5. Understand how to advance your communication objectives in a variety of situations, including interviews.
6. Have practice time preparing media relations strategies and tactics
7. Be prepared to apply media relations to their current work
