Situational assessments workshop (1day)

Description of workshop
This one day workshop reviews the methods used to identify and
assess community health needs, resources and capacities. In addition,
the workshop focuses on the ways in which the results of situational
assessments can be applied to guide the planning, revision and
evaluation of health promotion programs. By the end of the workshop,
participants will be able to plan and implement situational
assessments.
The workshop uses a mix of presentations and hands-on exercises. A
number of scenarios are used to illustrate the identification and
prioritization of health issues through the application of situational
assessment methods.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop is designed for public health professionals who are
interested in identifying and setting program and/or organizational
priorities.
Objectives
1. To understand and appreciate the purpose of situational
assessments.
2. To be familiar with the methods used to assess community
health needs and assets.
3. To appreciate the strengths and limitations of these methods.
4. To be able to interpret and apply situational assessment
results for program planning and priority setting purposes.
5. To communicate the findings of a situational assessment to
relevant stakeholders.
