Description of workshop

This workshop focuses on the skills needed to plan and implement focus groups -- one of the primary approaches used to evaluate health promotion programs. Participants will learn how to plan and moderate focus groups. The interpretation of survey results for planning will also be covered.

People interested in using focus groups to plan and assess the impact of health promotion initiatives.

Objectives

  1. To become familiar with designing, implementing and analyzing focus groups.
  2. To understand and explain the importance of focus groups as data collection methods.
  3. To develop an appropriate focus group methodology and moderator's guide for a health promotion case study, taking into consideration the specific context, population of interest, resources available and stakeholder needs.
  4. To collate and analyze focus group results.
  5. To learn how to critically assess the significance of focus group for planning and decision-making.
  6. To identify strategies for disseminating focus group results.
