Description of workshop

The objective of this workshop is to review strategies and tactics for “making the case” for health promoting initiatives such as community engagement, access to services, affordable housing, and violence prevention to decision-makers in government, foundations, private sector funders, and within your own organization.  By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to select the most pertinent evidence to support their initiative and develop a strategy for presenting this information to decision makes.

Format

In addition to being introduced to strategies for accessing, interpreting and presenting information on the effectiveness of health promoting initiatives by workshop facilitators, you will also have the opportunity to work from case studies to practice “making the case”.  Speakers will also present their own real-life experiences (successes and challenges) with “making the case” for a variety of initiatives in the field such as community economic development, and resident engagement.

Who should attend?

The workshop is for individuals (middle managers/program managers) who develop, prepare and/present “the case” for health promoting initiatives to decision-makers.

To stimulate thinking and provide participants with some practical information, resources and strategies for convincing key stakeholder groups to support health promotion initiatives ("Making the Case")

Objectives

To raise awareness of where to access key sources of evidence on the effectiveness of health promotion to review strategies and tactics for "making the case" to key stakeholder groups, including politicians, foundations, private sector funders, and the general public

To develop and enhance key skills related to "Making the Case" using simulated scenarios addressing a range of health promotion issues
